(100% is best)
After testing the 25, 32, and 35 mm versions of the Continental Grand Prix 5000 All Season (AS) TR, we will now look at the 28 mm version. Most of you already know how the 5000 All Season performs, and the 28 mm version probably isn't going to show us anything new. We feel it's worth testing the 28mm as well because we expect it to become the most popular choice for road bikes.

Some of our Pro Members requested a special article just like our GP 5000 23, 25, 28, 32, and GP 5000 S TR 25, 28, 30, 32 comparison articles, where we compared all available sizes of those tires under equal conditions. Because these special articles usually take a long time to edit, we want to point you to our Pro View page to compare all four sizes of the GP 5000 All Season on a single page.
To select all sizes of the Grand Prix 5000 All Season in Pro View, ensure you've enabled both the Road Bike and CX/Gravel categories in the Pro View Settings and then type "5000 all season" in the table search box. This will give you an overview where all tested sizes of the Grand Prix 5000 All Season can be compared.
If you've read our other tests of the Grand Prix 5000 All Season, you know its strongest points are wet grip, sidewall protection, and (for an all-season tire) low rolling resistance. If you're looking for more information about the Grand Prix 5000 All Season and how it's different from the other tires in the Continental 5000 TR series, we recommend you to read our initial review of the 25 mm version that includes a more extended introduction that will get you up to date on these tires.
In this review, we will evaluate the 28 mm Continental Grand Prix 5000 All Season against its 25 mm counterpart and a range of 28 mm tires from other reputable brands, which are considered its primary competitors based on our testing.

The Road Bike section is a multi tire size section, air pressures have been adjusted to the measured casing width. All numbers are for a single tire at a speed of 29 km/h / 18 mph and a load of 42.5 kg / 94 lbs. Use the formula: RR (Watts) = CRR * speed (m/s) * load (N) to calculate rolling resistance at a given speed and load. |

Conclusion
- Continental Grand Prix 5000 All Season TR 28
(100% is best)
The 28 mm version of the Grand Prix 5000 All Season performs even better in our tests when compared to the already strong performing 25 mm version. Wet grip is one of the most essential properties of an all-season tire, and the 28 mm version of the Grand Prix 5000 All Season is now the absolute best (wet) gripping road bike tire (smaller than 30 mm) we've tested to date. The only tire that grips better is the 35 mm version of the Grand Prix 5000 All Season, and it again confirms that this is the tire to beat when it comes to wet grip.
The main weakness is again the puncture resistance of the tread, which comes in lower than expected for an all-season tire. The relatively low puncture resistance is no surprise, and it's the design choice Continental made as they assume the tubeless sealant will seal most punctures in a tubeless-ready tire.
When we compare the 25, 28, 32, and 35 mm versions of the Grand Prix 5000 All Season, we see that the 32 and 35 mm versions come with a higher tread thickness (3.2 - 3.4 mm) than the 25 and 28 mm versions (2.5 - 2.7 mm). It looks like the 25 and 28 mm versions are designed more for road bikes, while the 32 and 35 mm versions are made for slightly more demanding conditions.
If you need better puncture resistance than the 25 and 28 mm versions of the Grand Prix 5000 All Season provide, and they fit on your bike, going for the bigger 32 or 35 mm versions will bump puncture resistance by roughly 20 percent.
Compared to the 25 mm version of the Grand Prix 5000 All Season, the 28 mm version simply performs stronger in all of our tests except for the obvious weight measurement. When you're looking for an all-season road bike tire, and a 28 mm tire fits on your bike, we can't find a reason why you'd want to go with the 25 mm version over the 28 mm version.
