Schwalbe G-One RS Pro (transparent) 50 road bike tire on a rolling resistance test machine

Schwalbe recently released a new version of the G-One RS, and it's now called "G-One RS Pro". With the introduction of the Pro version, Schwalbe also introduced a 50 mm version that we know a lot of people were waiting for. We already tested the 40 mm version of the G-One RS Pro (read our review) last week, and our first impression of the new G-One RS was positive.

The 40 mm version we tested last week was the black sidewall version. The 50 mm on test today comes with transparent sidewalls, which will give some interesting data points. It's worth noting that the transparent version of the G-One RS seems to be the prime version as it is the only sidewall color that's available in all sizes (35, 40, 45, and 50 mm), while the black sidewall version only comes in the 40 and 45 mm sizes.

We tested the previous version of the G-One RS in the 35, 40, and 45 mm sizes, and we didn't find any significant differences between those sizes. We'll compare the 50 mm G-One RS Pro to the old 45 mm G-One RS Super Race and a bunch of other 47-50 mm gravel bike tires as our gravel bike tire database has grown and now contains some good test results from the big gravel bike tires.

If you want more information about the new G-One RS Pro, we recommend diving into our review of the 40 mm version we tested last week.

The CX/Gravel section is a multi tire size section, air pressures have been adjusted to the measured casing width.

All numbers are for a single tire at a speed of 29 km/h / 18 mph and a load of 42.5 kg / 94 lbs.

Use the formula: RR (Watts) = CRR * speed (m/s) * load (N) to calculate rolling resistance at a given speed and load.

The 50 mm version of the new G-One RS pro is built beefier than the 40 mm version (read our review). The main difference is found in the tread thickness, which has increased from 2.0 mm to 2.6 mm, and the tread puncture resistance, which has increased from 29 points to 40 points.

The obvious result of this thicker tread is an increased rolling resistance that has increased by roughly 15% compared to the 40 mm version of the G-One RS Pro. When compared to the 45 mm version of the previous generation G-One RS, we also see that the biggest size of the new version rolls slower than the biggest size of the old version.

Like the 40 mm version, the new 50 mm version performs much stronger in the wet grip tests, and it's a confirmation that the new Addix Race compound used on these tires is a big upgrade over the old Addix Speed compound.

We're still missing a data point on the black vs transparent sidewall as some of the differences in the rolling resistance tests could come from this. We'll have to wait until we've tested the 40 mm version with transparent sidewalls to draw a conclusion about this.

We're sure many people are also wondering about the 45 mm version and whether it comes closer to the 40 mm version or the 50 mm version in tread thickness. We've looked into the specifications of the old and new versions, and we noticed that the 45 mm version of the new G-One RS is the only version that sees an increase in the specified weight from 505 grams to 515 grams. It's a good indication the 45 mm will be closer to the 50 mm version than the 40 mm version.

The more sturdy construction of the bigger versions of the G-One RS seems quite normal in the bicycle tire market as we've tested quite a lot of sizes of the same tire type by now, and we regularly see the bigger sizes coming with thicker treads.

If you want pure speed, the 35 and 40-mm versions of the new G-One RS look to be the safe choice for now.
