Vittoria Corsa Pro Control TLR 34 road bike tire on a rolling resistance test machine

NOTE: This Vittoria Corsa Pro Control TLR 34 was tested as a CX-Gravel tire at low air pressures. You can also find tests of the 28 mm Vittoria Corsa Pro Control TLR in the road bike section.

Vittoria now carries three tires in its latest "Corsa Pro" range: Corsa Pro Speed, Corsa Pro, and Corsa Pro Control. This range covers most of the road bike tire spectrum, with the Corsa Pro Speed being the right choice when you need absolute speed, the Corsa Pro for most other road bike conditions, and the Corsa Pro Control intended more for use on cobblestones, rough roads, and harsh conditions.

The Corsa Pro Control is very similar to the regular Corsa Pro, but the main difference can be found in the tread area. The tread on the Corsa Pro Control is a bit wider and thicker, comes with a different tread pattern, and is made of a different compound mix. Much of the rest of the tire is the same as the regular Corsa Pro, and it offers the same new vulcanized 320 TPI tubeless-ready cotton casing with the same puncture belt under the main section of the tread.

Another slight difference, and indication the Corsa Pro Control is intended for rougher conditions, is the availability of the bigger 34-622 size. To be exact, the Corsa Pro is available in the 24, 26, 28, 30, and 32 mm sizes, while the Corsa Pro Control is available in the 26, 28, 30, 32, and 34 mm sizes.

We're now going to take a look at the 34 mm Corsa Pro Control, which is the largest size in the entire Corsa Pro range. We have seen a trend towards bigger tires lately, and the 34 mm size of the Corsa Pro Control looks to be a good option for mixed gravel/road biking.

The CX/Gravel section is a multi tire size section, air pressures have been adjusted to the measured casing width.

All numbers are for a single tire at a speed of 29 km/h / 18 mph and a load of 42.5 kg / 94 lbs.

Use the formula: RR (Watts) = CRR * speed (m/s) * load (N) to calculate rolling resistance at a given speed and load.

The Vittoria Corsa Pro Control is a bit of a strange tire, and it simply doesn't impress in our tests. Rolling Resistance is relatively high for a tire with a minimal tread height. The tread's puncture resistance is good, but the sidewalls leave something to be desired. Wet grip is strong, but it's not at the level of the latest slick tires, which have made significant progress in the past 12 months.

The 34 mm Corsa Pro Control also measures quite small for a 34 mm rated tire. We see the "unmounted casing width" coming in at 84 mm, which is a value that fits a 32 mm tire in our tests, and we feel the 34 mm version should have been 87-88 mm wide.

If you're looking for volume, you might have to wait for a 38/40 mm version of the Corsa Pro Control.
