The Eagle F1 SuperSport R is Goodyear's fastest road bike tire for racing, time-trial, and triathlon events where every last bit of performance counts. The Eagle F1 SuperSport has been around for a couple of years, but Goodyear recently released the brand new R version, a completely redesigned tire with a new casing and compound.

We didn't test the previous version of the Eagle F1 SuperSport, but we did test the "regular" Eagle F1 (read our review) a couple of years back, and the non-R version was a tire that didn't offer impressive performance or any unique selling points. We have to give Goodyear credit, though, as the original non-R versions were their first try at making competitive road bike tires, and they probably went towards the safe side with those tires.
The new (Tubeless Complete) R versions of the Eagle F1 and Eagle F1 SuperSport have been completely redesigned with a new "short-ply" casing and new compound. The new 150 TPI casing is folded so that there is only a single layer under the tread for maximum flexibility and grip, while the sidewalls are made up of 2 layers to improve their strength. On top of the base casing, we find an extra bead-to-bead layer made from a different material that helps seal the tire and increases puncture protection.
This new "short-ply" casing applies only to the Tubeless Complete versions of the Eagle F1 R and Eagle F1 SuperSport R, as the tube-type (clincher) versions appear to use a more traditional casing design that works better for tube-type tires. The new tube-type versions get the improved compound, which makes the most significant difference, so we expect a big boost in performance for the tube-type tires as well.
The compound found on the R versions is newly developed by Goodyear, and both our rolling resistance and wet grip tests confirm that it can compete with the best compounds on the market.
We've tested the black sidewalled 28 mm version of the Eagle F1 SuperSport R, but it's also available in the 25 and 30 mm sizes. All sizes are also available with black or transparent sidewalls for those who like a classic look.

The Road Bike section is a multi tire size section, air pressures have been adjusted to the measured casing width. All numbers are for a single tire at a speed of 29 km/h / 18 mph and a load of 42.5 kg / 94 lbs. Use the formula: RR (Watts) = CRR * speed (m/s) * load (N) to calculate rolling resistance at a given speed and load. |

Conclusion
- Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport R TLC 28
(100% is best)
The Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport R is a very performant tire that rolls fast and offers exceptional grip in our wet grip tests. Goodyear's new compound, combined with the flexibility of the "short-ply" casing, results in an extreme amount of wet grip (equalling the best-scoring tire in this test) when testing the center of the tire. We do see less edge grip, which we contribute to the tread pattern and less flexible casing near the edges of the tread, as that part is already made up of 2 layers.
We recommend the Eagle F1 SuperSport R only to those looking for ultimate performance while racing or during time trials. If you care about puncture resistance or durability, this tire is not for you as not only the puncture score is low, but the tire thickness is very thin at 1.6 mm. Tubeless tires rely on tubeless sealant to seal small punctures, but the re-sealing will become progressively worse the thinner the tire gets.
