Schwalbe G-One RS Pro (black) 40 road bike tire on a rolling resistance test machine

The Schwalbe G-One RS is known as one of the fastest gravel bike tires on the market. We have tested the previous version in all sizes, and judging by the pageviews; this is not only one of the fastest but also one of the most popular gravel bike tires among visitors to our website. There is now a new version of the G-One RS: G-One RS Pro

We are pleased that Schwalbe has simplified the names of their tires, as it has become increasingly difficult to find the right version over the years. This was not too complicated with the G-One RS, as it was only available in one version, but "G-One RS Pro" sounds better to us than "G-One RS Super Race Addix Speed."

However, you still need to pay attention to the sidewall color, as there can be differences. We are now looking at how the new G-One RS Pro with black sidewalls performs, but we will undoubtedly test a version with transparent sidewalls sometime in the future. As far as we can see on paper, there shouldn't be any difference between the sidewall colors.

On paper, the main difference between the G-One RS Pro and the old G-One RS is the compound, which has now become "Addix Race" instead of the "Addix Speed" on the old version. The tire still looks very similar, but what really makes us curious— and could make a huge difference— is that the new G-One RS Pro comes from a different factory in another country, rather than the factory in Indonesia where Schwalbe's tires have been manufactured for at least the last 10 years.

The only real way to find out the differences between the new and old versions is to put the tires through our tests. We tested the 40 mm version with black sidewalls, which allows us to compare the new tire directly with the old "G-One RS Super Race Addix Speed" (read our review) and a large selection of similar gravel bike tires.

The G-One RS Pro is still available in 35, 40, and 45 mm sizes, but a new 50 mm version will satisfy many gravel bikers. However, be aware that the 35 and 50-mm versions are only available with transparent sidewalls.

The CX/Gravel section is a multi tire size section, air pressures have been adjusted to the measured casing width.

All numbers are for a single tire at a speed of 29 km/h / 18 mph and a load of 42.5 kg / 94 lbs.

Use the formula: RR (Watts) = CRR * speed (m/s) * load (N) to calculate rolling resistance at a given speed and load.

When we compare the new Schwalbe G-One RS Pro with the old G-One RS Super Race (read our review), the latest version performs better almost everywhere. The most significant improvement is in the wet grip of the center of the tire, and we expect this to be a result of the new Addix Race compound instead of the old Addix Speed compound, which was fast but didn't provide a lot of wet grip.

Despite the improved wet grip, we also see an improvement in the rolling resistance tests. A negative point is a slight decline in puncture resistance of the tread, but the differences are small, and we are still unsure whether this is genuinely lower or falls within the margin of error of our tests.

We are also happy that we have another new tire from Schwalbe that's manufactured in a different country than usual and performs better than the previous generation of tires.

Compare the new G-One RS Pro and the old G-One RS Super Race on our comparison section.
