Vittoria Mezcal Gravel Endurance 44 road bike tire on a rolling resistance test machine

The Vittoria Mezcal is one of Vittoria's most popular mountain bike tires, and the gravel bike version was released not long ago. They've recently released a new version that replaces the first version called "Mezcal III TNT G+" (read our review). It's now called Mezcal Gravel Endurance, which makes it clearer that this is the gravel bike edition with an endurance casing.

While Vittoria already has an extensive range of cyclocross and gravel bike tires, the Mezcal stands out for its versatile tread pattern. And yes, the Mezcal gravel bike tire looks similar to the mountain bike version, but beware that the knob height is lower to suit gravel bike conditions better. Luckily, we've also tested the 29x2.25 size of the Mezcal (read our review), and it provides us an excellent opportunity to compare the gravel bike and mountain bike versions.

If you're already a Pro Member, you can compare the MTB and gravel bike versions of the Mezcal through Pro View, which allows you to compare all the tires we've tested in a single overview.

Like the old version, the new Mezcal Gravel Endurance is available in the 35-622 and 44-622 sizes. We've tested the 44-622 version, and in this review, we're going to compare it to the previous "Mezcal III TNT G" and a selection of gravel bike tires in the 40-45 mm sizes that come with a similar knob height/tread pattern.

The CX/Gravel section is a multi tire size section, air pressures have been adjusted to the measured casing width.

All numbers are for a single tire at a speed of 29 km/h / 18 mph and a load of 42.5 kg / 94 lbs.

Use the formula: RR (Watts) = CRR * speed (m/s) * load (N) to calculate rolling resistance at a given speed and load.

Our test results clearly show that the new Vittoria Mezcal Gravel Endurance is the same tire as the "Mezcal III TNT G+" (read our review); the only difference is the name. We find the name to be an improvement because it makes it clearer that this is the Gravel edition, and it uses Vittoria's stronger casing instead of their "Lite" or "Race" casing with thinner sidewalls.

When we look at the performance of the new gravel Mezcal, we still see its strong all-round performance as its biggest advantage. The Mezcal Gravel has no significant shortcomings, and thanks to its tread pattern, we recommend this tire if you ride in varying conditions year-round and don't want to switch tires.
